Grocery price intelligence

Stop guessing where your money goes.

Photograph a grocery receipt. We read every line, and show you where the month actually went.

The NearbyStore app showing a scanned receipt broken into individual line items

How it works

Three steps, about ten seconds.

Step 1

Snap the receipt

Crumpled, faded and angled shots are fine.

Step 2

We read every line

Each item, quantity and price, pulled out automatically.

Step 3

See where it went

Your month by category, and each item's price over time.

Your receipts, finally readable.

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is NearbyStore?

A grocery receipt app. You photograph a receipt, it reads every line item, and it turns your own shopping history into a monthly spending picture and a price record for the things you buy again and again.

Can I use it today?

Yes. The beta runs in your browser at app.nearbystore.ca, so there is nothing to install. The iOS and Android apps are still in development and have not been published to either store.

Does it cost anything?

No. It is free while we are in beta. We have not set pricing yet, and if that changes we will tell existing users well in advance rather than springing it on you.

Which stores does it work with?

Any store that prints a receipt. The scanner reads the paper, so it doesn't depend on a partnership, a loyalty card, or a store integration.

What does it actually read off my receipt?

The store, the date, and each line item: description, quantity, unit price and line total, plus the receipt totals. That is what makes spending categories and price history possible.

Do you store my card details?

No. Card numbers, masked card numbers, authorization codes, RRNs, terminal IDs and cardholder names are detected and removed before anything is saved.

That check is plain pattern-matching plus a Luhn checksum, run separately from the AI that reads the receipt, so it doesn't depend on a model getting it right. See the privacy policy for the full list.

What if the scanner reads something wrong?

You can correct any line item yourself, and low-confidence reads are flagged for review before they affect your totals or price history.

Can I delete my receipts or my account?

Yes, both, at any time. Deleting a receipt removes its image and the line items taken from it. See your rights in the privacy policy, or send us a request.

Do you sell my data?

No. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share your receipts with retailers, advertisers or data brokers. The privacy policy says so in binding terms.

Can it compare prices between stores yet?

Not yet. It is the next thing we are building. Today the price history you see is built from your own receipts, at the stores you actually shopped at.

Where does it work?

It is built for Canada first, and tuned for South Asian grocery shopping in particular: the brands, the bulk sizes and the independent shops that generic budgeting apps file under "Other".
